It is a forest bird also seen in cleared areas and home gardens and found in the wet lowlands restricted to the foothill areas and mid hilly regions up to about 5000 ft above sea level. The bird can be observed in Kitulgala Forest, Sinharaja Rain Forest, The Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, Kanneliya National Park, Hiyare Forest Reserve, Udawattakele Forest Reserve and the Riverstone area.
